# Setup & authentication

> How to set up the Fyvel MCP server and authenticate your client.

# Setup & authentication

The Fyvel MCP server is protected with its own MCP credential. This credential is not the same as the API key for Excel or Google Sheets.

## Endpoint

`https://www.fyvel.io/mcp`

## Authentication

Send the MCP credentials as a bearer token in the HTTP header:

```http theme={null}
Authorization: Bearer <your-mcp-token>
```

If the header is missing or the token is invalid, the server rejects the call.

## Create an MCP credential in Fyvel

1. In Fyvel, open `Company settings > MCP`
2. Click **New MCP credential**
3. Confirm creation
4. Copy the token immediately — it is shown only once

## How credentials behave

* MCP credentials are **bound to the organisation**
* When you create a new MCP credential, existing MCP credentials of that organisation are revoked
* The API key for Excel and Google Sheets is not affected

## First call

For new MCP clients this order works well:

1. `list_companies`
2. choose the matching `companyUuid`
3. then call the organisation-wide or company-specific tool you need

## Important scope rules

* The organisation comes from the bearer token
* Many tools also expect a `companyUuid`
* You get the `companyUuid` from [`list_companies`](/en/mcp/companies)
