# Categories

> Read, create, and change the categories of a company.

# Categories

Categories structure bookings for management reporting in Fyvel. Via MCP you can read, create, move, update, and delete categories.

## Available tools

* `list_categories`
* `bulk_create_categories` (one or many categories per call, max. 50)
* `change_category`
* `delete_category`

## Scope

Categories are **company-specific**. You need a `companyUuid`.

## What `list_categories` can do

`list_categories` supports several filters:

* `reportingSectionUuid`
* `nameContains`
* `isGroupShared`
* `costCenter`

The output also includes `linkedMappedTransactionsCount`. The value shows how many bookings are currently linked to a category.

## Typical use cases

* load categories for a company or a section
* create new categories (one, or several with `bulk_create_categories`)
* move categories into another reporting section
* adjust name, description, or cost center
* delete unused categories

## Important dependencies

* `reportingSectionUuid` comes from [`list_reporting_sections`](/en/mcp/reporting-sections)
* `costCenter` often depends on the data from [`list_cost_centers`](/en/mcp/cost-centers)
* Mapping flows set categories via [`set_booking_category`](/en/mcp/mapping)
