# Upload values to booking layers

> Write plan, forecast, and model values from Excel or Google Sheets into a booking layer

With the Excel add-in and the Google Sheets add-in you can write values from a spreadsheet into a booking layer in Fyvel. This is the path for plan, forecast, or other modelled values that you maintain in the spreadsheet and then want to use in reports.

Add-in setup is on [Excel & Google add-ins](/en/documentation/working-with-fyvel/add-ins). What booking layers are, and how you combine them in reports, is under [Booking layers & snapshots](/en/documentation/working-with-fyvel/booking-layers-snapshots).

### When this upload fits

* **Plan or forecast** — write monthly amounts from a model into their own layer and select them in the report next to actuals.
* **Modelled additions** — keep values that do not come from the accounts separate from imports and manual entries.
* **Overwrite again** — later replace the same layer with the current state from the spreadsheet.

For individual correction bookings with debit and credit, [Manual entries](/en/documentation/working-with-fyvel/manual-transactions) is the better path. The **Manual Transactions** template in the add-in belongs to that other upload, not to the values of a booking layer.

### Prerequisites

1. The add-in is set up (email, organisation UUID, add-in API key).
2. In Fyvel there is an **unlocked** booking layer to write to. Under Booking layers, create a layer of type **Custom**. Snapshots are locked and do not accept an upload. Layers of type **Statistic** cannot be filled with this template.
3. You have the **layer UUID** of the target layer. On the Booking layers page it is under the name. The copy icon puts it on the clipboard.
4. The **organisation UUID** is under `Company settings > General`.

### Insert the template

**Excel:** Open the task pane and under Upload click **+ Template**, then **Booking layer values**.

**Google Sheets:** Open the sidebar, the **Upload data** section, and click **Insert template**. Choose **Layer Values**.

The add-in creates a new sheet, by default `fyvel-upload`. If that name already exists, the sheet is called `fyvel-upload (2)`, and so on.

Cell A1 must stay `FYVEL UPLOAD`. That is how the add-in recognises the sheet.

### Fill in the sheet

| Cell | Contents |
| - | - |
| **Layer Name** (B3) | For orientation in the sheet only. It is not sent. |
| **Organisation UUID** (B4) | Organisation UUID from company settings |
| **Layer UUID** (B5) | UUID of the target booking layer |

Row 7 describes the columns. Data rows start at row 12. In column A you choose the row type from the list:

| Row type | What goes in **UUID / Number** (column B) |
| - | - |
| **Category** | UUID of the category (copy it on the Categories page) |
| **Reporting Section** | UUID of the reporting section (copy it on the Reporting structure page) |
| **Account** | UUID of the account |
| **Account Number** | Account number from the chart of accounts, as an integer |

Each row has exactly one row type. The UUID or number must belong in Fyvel to the company of the booking layer.

**Cost Center** (column C) is optional. If you fill it, enter the cost-center number as an integer. An empty cell means: no cost center.

**Period** (row 9, from column E) is the month of the value column. The first period is a date. Each following column moves one month forward. You can change the start date. The following months follow it. A value column without a date is ignored as long as there are no amounts below it. If the column has amounts, the period date must be set.

Amounts start at row 12 in the columns headed **Value** (by default E through P, twelve months). Empty amount cells are skipped. Add further months to the right: heading `Value` and a date in the period row.

Enter amounts the way they should appear in a P\&L with the usual sign convention. In balance-sheet rows the direction is reversed.

### Send the data

**Excel:** On the sheet's row, click **Send**. Only this sheet is sent. A booking-layer-values sheet writes into the booking layer from cell B5.

**Google Sheets:** In the sidebar, click **Send data**. The add-in reads every sheet whose A1 is `FYVEL UPLOAD` or `FYVEL MANUAL TRANSACTIONS UPLOAD` and sends them one after another. A Layer Values sheet writes into the booking layer from cell B5.

<Warning>
  The upload **replaces** the entire contents of the target booking layer. Anything that is not on the sheet is removed from the layer. Always send the complete state the layer should have afterwards.
</Warning>

After sending, the sidebar shows how many rows arrived from how many sheets. You can then select the layer in reports and in the add-ins, including as a forecast layer in rolling forecast.

### Common errors

* **No upload sheet found** — A1 is not exactly `FYVEL UPLOAD`.
* **Organisation UUID or layer UUID is missing** — B4 or B5 is empty.
* **Layer is locked** — the layer is a snapshot or locked for another reason.
* **UUID or account number is invalid** — the entry does not exist in this organisation, or not at the company of the layer.
* **Unknown row type** — column A contains something other than Category, Reporting Section, Account, or Account Number.
