# Overview

> What Fyvel is, how it works, and who it is for

### What is Fyvel?

Fyvel is a web platform for finance teams who want to analyse their accounting data and prepare it for management reporting themselves — without waiting for their tax advisor.

Fyvel sits between your tax advisor's accounting software (typically DATEV) and your reporting tools (Google Sheets, Excel). You keep control of your data and speed up your month-end close.

### The problem

1. **Accounting exports are hard to analyse.** Exports from DATEV or similar systems are built for tax reporting, not for management reporting.
2. **Reclassifications go through the tax advisor.** If you, as CFO, want to classify a booking differently (for example, split "office supplies" into "marketing materials" and "IT equipment"), you usually have to contact your tax advisor. That takes time.
3. **Splitting personnel costs is tedious.** When an employee works for several departments, allocating those costs to cost centers afterwards is manual, error-prone, and slow.

### The solution

Fyvel adds a **metadata layer** on top of your existing accounting data. You upload your monthly export, and Fyvel turns it into a structured, interactive dataset. With that you can:

* **Reclassify bookings** — assign your own categories without changing the source data.
* **Build your own reporting structure** — group accounts the way your company actually works.
* **Split personnel costs across cost centers** — retroactively and to the exact percentage, directly in Fyvel.
* **Build reports in Fyvel** — with periods, companies, and booking layers you choose.
* **Export data and reports** — into your Google Sheets or Excel template in one step.

The original accounting data is never changed. Fyvel only adds to it.

### Who is Fyvel for?

* CFOs and finance leads in small and mid-sized companies (typically 10–500 employees)
* Controllers and finance teams who produce monthly management reports
* Companies that use DATEV (or similar software) through an external tax advisor

### How Fyvel is organised

Fyvel is built around **organisations** and **companies**. An organisation can contain several companies (for example a holding company with subsidiaries). Users belong to an organisation and can switch companies at any time.

| - | - |
| **Organisation** | The top-level unit (for example a group or holding company) |
| **Company** | A legal entity inside the organisation |
| **User** | A person with access to one or more organisations, with a role: Admin, User, or Viewer |

Administrators can create more companies inside an organisation and invite teammates.
